About the City

On 14th of  January 1974, Pudukottai became one of the districts of Tamilnadu.. At that time many small towns like Kandhavarkottai, Aranthangi, Keeramangalam were merged with Pudukottai to form a district. Pudukottai measures about 4600 square kilometers with its population of 13,22,494. The agriculture here depends only on the seasonal rains. The district has nearly about 600 lakes which irrigates the farm lands. The rivers flowing across Pudukottai are Vellaru, Pambaru, Perungalur Gundaru, Koraiaru, Ambuliaru and Kolavanaru. But even then these rivers get dried in hot summer season. Also Pudukottai has many small mountains around.
